When choosing a support worker you have to make sure you know what qualities you want them to have. Whether you want someone fun or someone motivating. There is someone out there for you. You just have to look around until you find the one that best suits what you want.

Through Siobhan’s sport we were fortunate enough to meet a lot of support workers and to see them, I guess in that we were just standing back, I’m-the-parent-of-someone role so they weren’t on their best behaviour for me, they weren’t doing anything, they were just being them and as people moved between roles I would sort of go “one day I might be able to employ you. Do you mind if I contact you?” and that is what we did and that is where the bulk of our crew have come from.

We have had some through the agency for some of that regular stuff we employed an agency and they were new to us but again Siobhan had an idea of what qualities she wanted them to have and we’ve done well, we’ve got some really good ones through that too.
