For Christmas 2017, we made our own list of naughty and nice Senators by asking them to declare their support for full funding of the NDIS.

We called on all Senators to stay on the nice list by committing (or recommitting) their support to fully fund the NDIS. We wanted to let them know we are watching and keeping score.

Thank you for sending this message to the Senators:

Dear Senator,

We know with Christmas and the summer holidays just around the corner you’ve had a lot on your mind. There’s been plenty to talk about – dual citizenship, tax cuts, electricity prices – even crocodiles. But amid all this talk there has been one thing missing – the NDIS.

So we are writing to remind you that this Christmas we need a fully funded NDIS. The bill to increase the Medicare Levy to fund the NDIS has already passed the Lower House. Now it sits with you.

We’ve heard lots of talk this year about how important it is to get the NDIS right for everybody. We couldn’t agree more! But part of getting it right is making sure the scheme is funded – now and into the future. The time for talk is well and truly over, now is the time for action.

We think a small increase to the Medicare Levy is a fair way to fund the NDIS. The scheme is for ALL Australians. If you or someone you love acquires a disability, the NDIS will be there for you.

So don’t be a scrooge this Christmas. Funding the NDIS through an increase to the levy takes the scheme out of the annual budget cycle, and out of the realm of politics. It will help make sure the scheme is around for years to come. Once funding is locked in, we can all get on with the job of making sure the NDIS is the best it can be.

So now it’s up to you, to give the best gift you can this Christmas. People with disability have been waiting a long time for the NDIS. Don’t make them wait any longer.
